lighter than air. Well, not exactly but the Mag 77, with its high-tech magnesium frame, is lighter than ever, yet holds up under the toughest job site conditions. With 13 amps of worm drive power this saw features precision-machined worm gears, all ball bearings, and a lower guard that pre-opens for bevel cuts. The high-strength aircraft aluminum-foot glides smoothly over your work surface while the left side blade gives you a clear view of the cut line. Other features include a textured-grip rear handle that makes following the line easier, an oil pressure relief bellow that prevents leaks, and a heavy-gauge rubber, 8-foot, three-wire grounded cord. Your saw purchase also includes a super sharp alloy-steel combination blade and blade wrench.This is a workhorse of a saw, and it definitely lives up to the Skil name (the company that invented these saws in the first place). This latest version of the famous Skil 77 takes all the power and torque the original is known for and packs it into a lightweight magnesium housing, bringing it down near the weight range of sidewinder saws. Grasping it by both handles, the saw balances well, and the notches in the shoe give a good guide for 90- and 45-degree cuts. It has a 2-3/8-inch depth of cut at 90 degrees, and 1-15/16 inches at 45 degrees. We liked the quick blade height adjustment mechanism and the angled wrench, which helps prevent skinned knuckles during blade changes. We couldn't feel any difference in performance between this Skil's 13 amp motor and others drawing 15 amps. Be prepared for a slight twist when you first flip the switch, but after that, it's a smooth machine made right here in the U.S. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

This saw lives up to all of the expectations. It has a smooth start, and a consistent rip.
I've used cheap plastic saws before, and this one puts them in their place.
The other reviewers weren't joking when they say that you'll be able to give this saw to your grand-kids someday. Hands down, this is the nicest saw that I've ever used!
